Data Poverty State of the Nation Report
The Data Poverty All Party Parliamentary Group has published its second State of the Nation Report. It assesses the rate of progress against nine key recommendations – from ‘creating an assumed right to data’ to ‘making early termination free and simple’. While progress has been made, the report also notes “frustration at a lack of sustained engagement from government” from many stakeholders.

A new report from the Centre for Social Justice finds that the number of households without internet access is nearly double official estimates provided by Ofcom. The majority are over 65s. It quantifies impacts for these households, from unemployment to higher prices.

Carers UK has published a new best practice guide. It provides recommendations on how organisations can support older carers who do not have access to the internet. It also highlights challenges for digitally excluded carers, such as loneliness and isolation, based on survey data.

A new project, DIG-IT (Digital Inclusion – Growing in IT), aims to increase digital inclusion across the Tees Valley. Teesside University and other local partners will develop and test the feasibility of a range of solutions and services, working with The Hope Foundation and Good Things Foundation.
Tesside UniversityOver 4,000 people to receive free tablets, connectivity and training in Liverpool City Region
The scheme – which is led by the Combined Authority, Lloyds Bank and Vodafone – will pilot delivering tablets and training to 300 local people who are unemployed or economically inactive. Over the following year, it will then work with local partners to provide 4,750 tablets, training and mobile internet access across the region.

The Scottish Government is supporting thirteen projects through the first round of funding from its Digital Inclusion Programme. The recipients will develop and test projects, to help the government understand how to best support people digitally in the future. Further rounds of funding will be available following the trials, with a total budget of £2 million.
