New parliamentary enquiry open for evidence, plus digitisation of NHS deemed “inadequate”

Government enquiry on digital exclusion in cost of living crisis

The Lords Communications and Digital Committee wants to hear your views on digital exclusion. Submissions are open to all until Tuesday 7th March, and questions cover everything from causes of digital exclusion to the effects of rising costs of living.

Parliamentary discussion on digital exclusion

Parliament held an opening session for the new digital exclusion enquiry in February, which outlined the cost of living context. Evidence was given by a number of experts, including from the Good Things Foundation and Digital Poverty Alliance. Recording available online.

Digitisation of the NHS deemed “inadequate”

An evaluation by the Government’s Health and Social Care Committee finds “inadequate” progress on commitments for digitisation of the NHS. The report states that it found “little evidence of progress” on digital inclusion, and outlines a number of causes such as inadequate funding and lack of staff capacity.

Cost of living “hits harder” for digitally excluded

This article in the Big Issue outlines the impact of digital exclusion in a cost of living crisis – from missing online deals to being unable to search for higher paying work. It concludes that “collaborative efforts” are needed “to eliminate this new and growing form of social inequality.”
