Government has “no credible strategy” to tackle digital exclusion, report finds

The House of Lords’s Communications and Digital Committee has published findings from its inquiry into digital exclusion and the cost of living. It finds 1.7million households without internet access. The Government must publish a new digital inclusion strategy and establish a cross-departmental government unit with a direct line into Number 10, the report says.

New reporting on investing in digital inclusion to support economic recovery

Good Things Foundation has worked with three local combined authorities – Greater Manchester, West Midlands, and North of Tyne – to pilot new ‘Digital Skills Pathways’, providing skills and devices needed to address digital exclusion locally. The project report gives case studies and policy recommendations, such as prioritising digital inclusion in visions for local economic growth.

The London Office of Technology and Innovation tested the effectiveness of different approaches to triaging digital inclusion needs with four boroughs: Barnet, Kensington and Chelsea, Southwark, and Westminster. The report and case studies outline the approaches taken by each borough, and provide insights on implementation and impact.

Report on the role of technology for health and wellbeing

This joint report from the NHS Confederation and Google Health explores the role of technology in managing, improving and supporting health and wellbeing. The report includes a section on 'Ensuring digital access and inclusion', which recognises the risks of adopting a digital-first approach and insights on how to address the divide.
