Protections for those using safety alarms in digital switch, plus new funding for community projects in Leeds.

Grants awarded to nine community projects for digital inclusion in Leeds

The Leeds Digital Inclusion Fund awarded up to £10,000 to the nine projects, with money raised through the Leeds Digital Ball 2024 and from the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Over the past three years, the fund has supported 20 groups, providing everything from workshops for those in addiction recovery to outreach for over sixties in their own homes.

Why embed digital inclusion in employability and financial health support

Good Things Foundation has published Power Up 2.0 – their second report showcasing the power of integrating digital inclusion support within existing employability and financial health projects. The report reflects on learnings from nine organisations, which supported over 1,900 people. 70% progressed towards work, and 67% felt financially better off after participating, they found.

Business, academic and charity leaders to steer Department for Science, Innovation & Technology on digital inclusion

The government department has appointed four new non-executive directors “to enhance public services, promote digital inclusion, and drive economic growth.” New appointees include Helen Milner OBE, Chief Executive of the Good Things Foundation, and Paul Willmott, Chief Digital Advisor to LEGO.

Companies promise protections for telecare in digital switchover

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology has reached an agreement with telecoms operators to provide protection over the digital switchover for vulnerable people using safety alarms. Companies will be required to offer a visit from an engineer, who will test alarms and ensure they continue to work once a household has moved onto the digital network.

Southwark using learning platform to springboard digital skills

Southwark Council has entered a collaboration with technology company Infosys to use its Springboard digital learning platform to build skills in the borough. Infosys has said the platform will help Southwark residents acquire new skills, and be used to make devices and digital assets available to those who need them.
