Croydon Council

Croydon Council’s vision is to become a truly digital council and borough.
Now more than ever, we are committed to helping our residents get online and supporting them on their digital journey, whatever their ability or level.
Prior to lockdown, we delivered free digital workshops in Croydon libraries aimed at older residents and started 1-2-1 training sessions with residents in sheltered accommodation blocks. We produced three user friendly ’How to get online’ guides covering step by step internet basics so that our 1-2-1 training could continue during lockdown with remote support.
More recently, we have been working with teams to help accelerate the provision of WiFi in community areas in sheltered blocks and are looking at how we can provide internet access and devices to households in need, with school aged children.
We hope our continued efforts along with the support of our partners and key organisations will help to make a difference towards ending the digital divide.

Creating a digital inclusion guide
As part of our ongoing commitment to help Croydon residents stay connected, we have produced a series of three user friendly guides designed to help them get online. Have a look, and post your examples!

Overcoming the challenges of providing devices to residents
In Croydon we’ve worked hard to overcome the challenges of getting residents online. We’ve provided devices and internet connections to vulnerable people, and those facing financial difficulties. Here’s a summary of what we’ve learned so far – please add your thoughts in the comments.
