How to keep children safe online? New guide for parents and carers

Find the Right Words is a new campaign to support parents, carers and guardians to speak to their children about online safety. Created by digital safety charity Internet Matters and telecommunications company Virgin Media O2, it provides multimedia guides to having effective conversations and implementing parental controls, including videos and written guides.

Annual barometer of digital skills in UK charity sector

The annual Charity Digital Skills Report surveys charities across the UK on their digital skills and needs. This year, the findings show that almost three-quarters of small charities are struggling digitally due to squeezed finances, and 45% of charities say a lack of suitable digital funding is their biggest barrier.

New Preston Digital Cooperative to provide free WiFi areas and support for digital skills

A new digital cooperative in Preston will bring together public, voluntary and private organisations, which are working to improve access to connectivity, devices and skills for digitally excluded people and communities. As a co-founder, Preston City Council will offer development of infrastructure, including areas of free Wi-Fi, and support for the development of digital skills.

AbilityNet and Citizens Online charities announce merger

The two charities are “joining forces to support more digitally excluded people”, they have announced. AbilityNet specialises in providing digital accessibility services, while Citizens Online provides consultancy services to improve digital transformation and inclusivity. They will continue to operate under the AbilityNet brand.
