Survey shines light on local authorities and digital inclusion

The Local Government Association has published the results of an online survey sent to all English local councils last year. Fifty-six percent of councils that responded had at least one member of staff responsible for digital inclusion. Other findings explored funding needs, and challenges, such as demonstrating impact.

Can digital arts build online confidence in older people?

A new research project has been exploring whether participation in digital arts and culture could provide a first step for older people to use a broader range of digital tools and services. The study – which was conducted by the University of Sheffield and local authority organisation 100% Digital Leeds – found that creative activities can build confidence and motivation.

New toolkit for using arts and culture to build digital inclusion

Alongside the research, 100% Digital Leeds has developed a new toolkit to encourage and support greater involvement of arts and culture within digital inclusion programmes. The toolkit is designed to shape and inform the work of organisations in the arts and culture, VCSE, and digital inclusion sectors.

Successful applicants announced for Digital Inclusion Innovation Fund

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology has published the list of successful grant applicants to the Digital Inclusion Innovation Fund in England. The charity Good Things Foundation will be funded to work with councils on library services in regions across the UK. Multiple city and county councils and combined authorities also received funding.

Good Things Foundation appoints Vicki Sellick MBE as next chief exec

Vicki Sellick MBE will take over as chief executive for digital inclusion charity Good Things Foundation from March. She previously led the charity arm of St John Ambulance, working with hubs across England to tackle health inequalities in communities and pass on life saving skills. Prior to this, she worked at innovation foundation Nesta.
