Government calls for evidence on Digital Inclusion Action Plan

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology has launched a call for evidence on its major strategy for combating the digital divide, published last month. The department hopes to assess current progress against its planned actions, and is welcoming feedback from local authorities, businesses, civil society groups, and individuals on further actions to drive systemic change. Consultation closes 9 April.

Join new committee advising government on digital inclusion

The Digital Inclusion Action Committee is looking for members to scrutinise and steer government work on reducing digital exclusion across the UK. The newly formed group will act as an external advisory body, chaired by Baroness Hilary Armstrong. It is seeking national and local experts to express interest - deadline 2 April.

New coalition launched to share learnings and influence policy on digital exclusion

The Digital Poverty Alliance (DPA) has launched the Community Circle – a nationwide coalition of charities, non-profits, and community organisations committed to dismantling digital barriers. The coalition will provide a platform for groups to share best practice, influence policy, and collaborate on innovative strategy. Information about joining is on the DPA website.

Schools to receive £45 million government investment for digital inclusion

The government has announced a £45 million investment to improve connectivity in schools and colleges, alongside further plans to make digital standards a requirement for all schools. A consultation will run until May, gathering views on a long-term ambition for all schools and colleges to meet six core digital standards by 2030, which cover everything from infrastructure to digital safety.

New report on digital exclusion in the West of England

Good Things Foundation has published a report to inform the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority’s digital inclusion programme, working with Cosmic, Better Places, and University of Liverpool. They used a combination of research and stakeholder engagement to produce a snapshot of issues, provision, and opportunities to improve digital inclusion in the region.
